1. What are the advantages of low pressure casting compared with MIM?

Low pressure casting is a process of filling the cavity with liquid metal under pressure to form castings. MIM is a kind of powder metallurgy. Solid powder particles are used in the process. During sintering, it does not need to make the metal reach the melting point. It has the advantages of complete melt, low energy consumption and high batch production efficiency. MIM products have no segregation and have better homogeneity than casting products. MIM materials can also be selected in a wide range, such as low alloy steel, stainless steel, superalloys, cemented carbides, titanium alloys and cermets.

2. Does MIM have special requirements for moulds, including steel, design, processing and manufacturing, etc.?

Because the erosion and wear of metal injection moulds is much more serious than that of plastics, wear resistance is the most basic requirement for metal injection moulds for mass production. The hardness of the cavity is generally required to be between 58 and 62HRC. Metal injection materials often produce corrosive gases at injection temperature, so corrosion resistance is also important die materials. In order to obtain good fluidity, low molecular weight molecules and binders are used to make MIM feeds produce high flash sensitivity. Therefore, MIM die must have higher tolerance accuracy, no flash, and higher surface quality requirements.
